NO-NOs when complimenting an artist
“Your art style reminds me of __________”
No, it’s not flattering to someone that their art style is unoriginal to you. Now it’s a perfect insult if that’s what you are aiming for, but even if the artist you’re comparing them to is popular or does amazing work, contrary to what you may believe, it’s still not a nice thing to hear. If right now you haven’t been offended by that phrase, then there’s a problem with how okay you are with replicating someone else’s style (given you’re doing it consciously, it is possible to copy unintentionally but if you have someone’s work on your screen for references longer then 20 seconds, reassess your methods)“You make me want to quit art / crawl in a hole and die”
………..um……i apologize…..for your……loss? I mean, I know people want to make it seem more dramatic that they love your work, but honestly seeing good art should make you want to improve, not make the artist feel guilty for working day and night to get where they are.“Even if you’re not as good as ______ you’re better than ________”
Unless person number two is a grade A asshole, don’t put someone down to up the artist, especially not in public where everyone is about to start judging you something fierce.“I would yiff / fuck / lick / put my dong anywhere around that”
Don’t ask me to explain to you why this is on my list.
I, personally, don’t necessarily mind when people compare my art to other artists - sometimes it’s a big compliment depending on the artist!
But my work does not look like Fred Perry’s and I don’t consider it a compliment to be compared to his style.
Horse noses are dumb and wow these are a lot more work than I expected. I think it’s just because my hand isn’t in the mood to ink anything tonight.
I may or may not be drawing ponies for Anthrocon.
They’re based on the Equestria Girls desgns, which apparently everyone hates but I think are cute so whatever.
